Regeneration Scheme

Many local councils and authorities will initiate a regeneration scheme to help restore an area in their community that is badly dilapidate and showing the signs of urban decay. Many poor and impoverished communities are extremely run down, and this does very little to help the attitude of the people living in these areas. Because of this a correctly implemented regeneration scheme can often see a significant boost to the areas local economy, providing jobs for the people living their and in many cases restoring local pride.

Many of the regeneration schemes implemented by councils will actively encourage the local people to take part, particularly in the decision making process. This allows the people living in these communities where a regeneration scheme is taking place to take an active role and make decisions that will ultimately affect the outcome of the scheme, so they will be able to see the changes they wanted made to their communities.

Many cities, notably Liverpool which was bombed extensively during the war, have undergone a regeneration scheme to a great deal of success. The aforementioned city of Liverpool is now one of the most popular cities in the UK and has been chosen as the European Capital of Culture. All of this can be seen as a direct result of the regeneration scheme that took place there which greatly improved many of the extremely run down areas of the city.
